Nadia Fairfax ON TRACK

23rd Sep 2015

Blogger Nadia Fairfax is a star on the rise and, along with Kate Waterhouse, is one of the faces of our Spring Racing Collection for 2015. As well as running her own fashion website, Fairfax Journal, this blonde beauty recently allowed cameras into her life to document her career on the E! Channel’s ‘Fashion Bloggers’. We took five with Nadia to chat about her top races tips, the key fashion trends for SS15 and what a day on the track looks like for her.

Nadia-Close

Why did you want to collaborate with Wittner for Spring Racing SS15?
Anything that lets me hang out with my Katie-180! I love Spring Racing, and I love that Wittner have created a collection specifically geared around this time of year. Their designers have highlighted some of this seasons key trends, including “70’s” which is a personal favourite of mine and a look I hope to see down at the track. Hopefully Kate and I can provide some inspiration to all the lovely ladies attending the races this year.

What does the morning of the races look like for you?
If it’s after day 1, it usually involves a Berocca! Haha.
Very typical – hair and make-up and a heavy breaky! This year I have Lauren McCowan (Hair genius) joining me on my trip to Melbourne… She is an angel in disguise.

Which is your favourite Spring Racing day and why?
Oaks day! It’s the day everyone really let’s their hair down.

Where will we find you after a day at the races?
At The Olsen or The Cullen having a wind-down drink, then in a robe eating room service.

Do you dress differently for each race day and what style tips would you
give?
I do indeed! Don’t stray from the traditions (black and white for Derby etc). It’s also a great start on styling.

Where do you start when planning your Spring Racing outfits?
Dress first, shoes second, headwear last! I also have a lot of help from the beautiful milliners of Sydney.

Hat or fascinator?
Both! No need to discriminate. There are so many days, it’s fun to rock both.

Do you have any racing fashion do’s or don’ts?
DO have fun, DO dance, DO bet on a race. DON’T be a bore.

How important is wearing the right heel to the races?
If you don’t want to go home at 3pm, then make sure you make the right choice!  Comfort is key at the races.

What are the 5 things you need to survive a day at the races?
Friends, coffee, Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream, mints and My NX500 Samsung camera.

What is your favourite drink at the races?
Bubbles, of course!

3 words to describe your style?
Classic yet cool.

The Seventies trend is huge this season! How can we make it work for a day on the track?
It’s all about floppy hats and tan shoes. Steal inspiration from Bianca Jagger and Jerry Hall.

What are your tips for taking on the feminine trend without looking overdone?
Keep your beauty look clean and cool.  Tousled hair, natural skin, no lippy! You’ll be winning on and off the track!

Traditionally, the races are a more conservative event. How can we work an edgier look for the Spring Racing Carnival?
You can still look sleek and sexy without bringing the hemline higher. Opt for dark colours and slinky ankle grazing dresses. Cara Delevigne is proof that attitude is what amplifies edge. It’s not all about your outfit!

Which 3 shoes are your picks of the Wittner SS15 collection and why?
Astor Cage, Clara Platform and the Ruthie sandal. Can’t beat a tan coloured shoe.

What’s next for Nadia and Fairfax Journal?
World domination!!!!! Joking. Plenty more editorials and lots of travel. I’ll be following my heart to New York, so stay tuned!
