THE EDIT MidWinter Escape

THE EDIT MidWinter Escape

17th Jul 2015

Lucky enough to be escaping the winter chill? Jasmin Howell of style blog Friend in Fashion knows a thing or two about packing for an escape. Looking good doesn’t mean you have to take along your entire wardrobe. It’s much easier to enjoy a stylish summer vacation with just a few chic staples, including pops of our favourite hue for SS15/16 – azure blue. Trust us, when it comes to travel shoes, less is definitely more.

Below, we give you an insiders view into Jasmin’s Thailand holiday. Check out her summer essentials and learn how to make them work for your vacation wardrobe!

What are your travel essentials?
I like to pack as little as possible for two reasons – 1, it’s much more comfortable traveling light and 2 (most importantly), you’re left with plenty of room in your luggage for shopping while you’re away! The only things I absolutely can’t travel without are my laptop, cameras & all of my cables & chargers.

Top tips for taking an outfit from beach to bar?
The one-piece swimsuit is such a versatile piece for travel. Take this from beach to bar easily by throwing on a beautiful maxi skirt, add a wedge heel and some metallic By Jasmin jewels and you’re ready to hit the bar!

What three shoe styles does every girl need on a holiday?
I’m definitely a heel girl, but when it comes to vacation style, practically always wins – so I always travel with a selection of flats & sandals (loafers are perfect for flights), and as for heels I prefer a wedge style.

How will you be styling this spring’s biggest colour, azure blue?
My summer wardrobe is always filled with lots of white (especially playsuits & dresses), so for me azure blue is the perfect complimentary colour to accessorise with – think shoes, hats and bags.

How many pairs of shoes do you own?
I can honestly say that I’ve lost count! I have so many pairs, I sometimes forget what I actually have! Shoes are my weakness!

Bikini or one-piece?
Both! I love one-pieces, because they double as body-suits (perfect with skirts & shorts, and bikinis for swimming!

What songs are on your holiday playlist?
I’m a bit of a pop lover! At the moment my holiday playlist looks a bit like this:
Calvin Harris – Blame (Audio) ft. John Newman
Odesza – Sun Models
Avicii – Wake Me Up
Ellie Goulding – Burn
Clean Bandit – Stonger

What is your favourite thing about travelling?
Immersing myself in new cultures – I love exploring new landscapes & geographies, meeting new people, and just being exposed to different ways of life. I love trying new cuisines, and checking out the unique fashions of each place I visit.

What are some of your favourite bars and restaurants in Thailand?
If you’re in Phuket you have to make a visit to Baba’s Nest (Sri Panwa) – a great chilled pool bar with breathtaking views as well as The Dining Room at Six Senses (a luxe outdoor restaurant where you can enjoy exceptional fine-dining). As for Koh Samui, I uncovered a hidden gem – Phensiri bistro for tantalising thai food. The fresh coconuts are out of this world!

Which holiday destination are you dreaming of next?
I’m really looking forward to returning to the Maldives (my favourite place to holiday), as well as the Greek & Croatian Islands – I love an island holiday!
